This paper examines a holistic approach to substance abuse treatment and describes a drug treatment program known as Doing Life that has been specifically designed for use in boot camps.
Abstract
The new generation of boot camps emphasizes substance abuse treatment, academics, life skills, and the therapeutic community. In the area of drug treatment, the Doing Life program consists of 13 workbooks that focus on the 12 Steps to Recovery and the 5 Steps to Decisions. The program is intended to help drug addicts take control of their lives and stay sober. It can be used in individual self-study or in a facilitated group environment. The Doing Life program approaches substance abuse treatment from the addict's point of view rather than from a clinical perspective. 1 table and 4 figures
