The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) profiles of 173 persons in drug treatment were analyzed to in an attempt to identify which addicts were likely not to complete planned treatment.
Abstract
The study used information from records from six Minnesota Model drug treatment centers. The records were examined in 1991. Nearly all the participants were white males of middle socioeconomic status. The MMPI-2 profiles were analyzed using profile code types and a multiple analysis of variance. A chi-square test revealed that those who were classified as neurotic were more likely than others to fail treatment. In addition, a MANOVA indicated that elevated T-scores on Scales 7 and 8 were also related to noncompletion. A comparison of these results with similar studies indicated that attempting to construct a predictive model based on a single objective measure may be insufficient to determine treatment outcome.
