Three cases, involving autopsies on two young black adults and one Latin American child, are described in order to present data on deaths resulting from coronary artery stenosis or occluded coronary artery aneurysms years after the victims suffered from Kawasaki disease, an acute febrile childhood illness.
Abstract
Kawasaki disease occurs most frequently among Orientals. The authors note that, while most deaths from Kawasaki disease occur within 6 months of the onset of symptoms, there have been deaths recorded up to 14 years after the acute illness. The coronary artery aneurysms related to the disease may persist and cause death years later.
