REPORT ON THE ORGANIZATION AND ACTIVITIES OF THREE NEW HAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAMS FUNDED BY A SINGLE SUMMER INTERN GRANT; THE REPORT POINTS OUT FUNDING AND PLANNING PROBLEMS, AND SUGGESTS IMPROVEMENTS.
Abstract
THE THREE SUMMER PROGRAMS WERE AS FOLLOW: ATHLETIC PROGRAM OF COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL ACCOMODATING ABOUT 300 CITY YOUNGSTERS AND EMPLOYING YOUTH AIDES, HIGH SCHOOL AND STUDENT AIDES PROGRAM EMPLOYING OVER 32 TEENAGERS IN THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AND MOST OF THE POLICE DIVISIONS, COLLEGE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM EMPLOYING NINE COLLEGE STUDENTS IN THE POLICE DIVISIONS AND PROVIDING THEM WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT SEMINARS AND PATROL RIDE-ALONG EXPERIENCE. THE REPORT EMPHASIZES THE ROLE OF THE PROGRAM COORDINATOR IN PLANNING AND MANAGING THIS SUMMER PACKAGE.
