This publication by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) provides a case study on violence intervention outreach and trauma exposure

Abstract

This project presents a case study on community violence intervention (CVI). The project was funded by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and Giffords Law Center, and it reflects a collaboration between the University of California, Davis, the University of Illinois Chicago, and Giffords Center for Violence Intervention. This report focuses on CVI practice and trauma recover in Kansas City, Missouri. This study specifically focuses on strategies to support the infrastructure of the field so that CVI workers are protected from the same harms they work to prevent. The publication discusses the background and context, including a racial history of Kansas City and previous violence reduction efforts there; methodology, including a study sample and data collection and analysis; and results, including the implementation of the initiative in Kansas City as well as accompanying challenges. The document closes with fourteen recommendations for the implementation of other CVI efforts in similar contexts.
