This article describes several Web sites devoted to the issue of policing in the United Kingdom.
Abstract
The July 2002 passage of the United Kingdom Police Reform Bill requires chief officers and police authorities to produce their own crime prevention strategies. This article provides an assessment of relatively recently formed Web sites that are related to national policing organizations. Presenting numerous sites for police-related material, the article lists the Web addresses for several Web sites including the Home Office’s Police Reform site at http://www.policereform.gov.uk. This primary site provides links to Her Majesty’s Stationary Office, maintained by the Police Information Technology Organization; the Web site address is http://www.pito.org.uk/. A more substantial Web site is a site from the Association of Chief Police Officers, at http://www.acpo.police.uk. Various police staff organization Web sites including the Equality and Diversity Team and the National Black Police Association site may be accessed through the Home Office site. This article lists several overseas resources including the National Criminal Justice Reference Service at http://www.ncjrs.org, and the Florida State University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice site at http://www.criminology.fsu.edu/cjlinks/police2.html.
