THIS SURVEY WAS DESIGNED TO DETERMINE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MAJOR ACTS OF VANDALISM, OF VANDALS, OF THE SCHOOLS WHICH HAD EXPERIENCED MAJOR ACTS OF VANDALISM, AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PREVENTIVE MEASURES.
Abstract
THE SURVEY FOUND THAT MAJOR ACTS OF VANDALISM USUALLY OCCURRED ON SATURDAY NIGHT BETWEEN 8:00 PM AND 12 MIDNIGHT AND THAT THE TYPICAL VANDAL WAS AN ANGLOAMERICAN JUNIOR HIGH STUDENT BETWEEN 12 AND 14 YEARS OLD WHO WAS UNSATISFACTORY IN SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT. THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE WAS THE SCHOOL AREA MOST LIKELY TO RECEIVE VANDALISM DAMAGE. EXTRA LIGHTING OUTSIDE SCHOOL BUILDINGS WAS THE PREVENTIVE MEASURE MOST OFTEN EMPLOYED AND THOUGHT MOST EFFECTIVE.
