The findings of a survey of pay and related personnel practices in the police departments of three categories of municipalities both in and out of New Jersey are presented in tabular form.
Abstract
The survey was made to get an overall picture of police administrative practices that would have significance to New Jersey communities. Survey respondents include 21 New Jersey communities, 9 similar out-of-State communities, and 4 large metropolitan areas. The results of the pay survey are presented in terms of minimum pay, maximum pay, and the midpoints, with an average for each also included. Some of the personnel practices surveyed include minimum age, height, and weight requirements; medical, physical, written, and oral exam requirements; educational incentive plans; additional compensation for off-duty court appearances; uniform allowances; sick leave; vacation leave; and overtime. The results of that survey are presented in terms of the percentage of surveyed municipalities who do or do not have a particular practice, with frequency tabulations of the extent to which such practices are applied.
