RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF THE POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEVELOPED BY THE CENTRAL DATA PROCESSING AGENCY OF ALLEN COUNTY.
Abstract
THE PRIME PURPOSE OF THE SURVEY WAS TO DETERMINE WHETHER FUNDING SHOULD BE CONTINUED FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER AND TO IDENTIFY PROBLEM AREAS IN THE OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDIANA CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEM. THE SURVEY FOUND THE ALLEN COUNTY REGIONAL SYSTEM PROGRAMS VIABLE AND BASICALLY EFFECTIVE, AND RECOMMENDED CONTINUANCE OF FUNDING. THE CENTRAL PROBLEM IN THE STATE INFORMATION SYSTEM WAS A LACK OF DETAILED MASTER PLANNING EVIDENCED BY THE OVERLAPPING OF STATE AND REGIONAL DATA FUNCTIONS. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDED DEVELOPMENT OF A MASTER PLAN, EMPLOYMENT OF A FULL-TIME SYSTEM SPECIALIST TO COORDINATE THE LEVELS OF THE SYSTEM, AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF GUIDELINES BY WHICH TO MEASURE EFFECTIVENESS AND ATTAINMENT OF GOALS.
