The 1987 Survey of Youth in Custody provides a profile of drug and alcohol use patterns and the criminal and demographic characteristics of youth housed in long-term, State-operated institutional facilities nationwide.
Abstract
Interviews were conducted with 2,621 youth in 50 institutions in 26 States. Data collected included current offenses, prior criminal records, history of drug and alcohol use, age, race, sex, victim characteristics in violent crimes, peer group, and family background. This codebook provides information on survey variables available through the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social research data collections. The survey is available in two formats: card image and OSIRIS.
