Abstract
THE STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT BY STUDENTS OF THE INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF STOCKHOLM IN COOPERATION WITH THE NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATION'S DEVELOPMENT UNIT. IT DEALT WITH 162 PRISONERS WHO ESCAPED ON 165 OCCASIONS. NEARLY ALL ESCAPES TOOK PLACE FROM OPEN PRISONS. FIGURES ARE PROVIDED ON THE AGE, CITIZENSHIP, CRIMINAL RECORDS, HISTORY OF DRUG OR ALCOHOL MISUSE AND LENGTH OF SENTENCES OF THE ESCAPEES. ALSO PROVIDED ARE FIGURES ON THE TYPES OF OFFENSES COMMITTED WHILE AT LARGE, WAYS OF SUPPORTING THEMSELVES WHILE AT LARGE, MOTIVATION FOR THE ESCAPES AND PATTERNS OF ESCAPE AND RETURN TO PRISON. --IN SWEDISH, WITH ENGLISH SUMMARY
