Considerable attention has been given to criminalistic and technical crime prevention in Czechoslovakia as part of the socialist form of government.
Abstract
In contrast to the 1918-1938 period, crime decreased in Czechoslovakia between 1952 and 1984. Nonetheless, recidivism and property offenses continue to be relatively serious problems. Most socialist theorists support the contention that criminality is not compatible with socialism. Therefore, Czechoslovakia has focused on both general and special crime prevention. Social crime prevention reflects the idea that criminality is related to the entire social system. Czechoslovakian criminologists have looked at recidivism and aftercare and the criminal activity of juveniles. Research has demonstrated several possibilities for preventing juvenile and young adult criminality. The organization, management, and coordination of crime prevention in Czechoslovakia are discussed. Consideration is also given to legislation aimed at crime prevention, the role of government and social organizations in crime control, and the prevention of crime in working collectives and localities. 8 footnotes
