SCORING CHART AND CALCULATING PROCEDURES FOR ESTABLISHING PRIORITIES AMONG CASES AND ALLOCATING TIME AND RESOURCES IN LIGHT OF THOSE PRIORITIES.
Abstract
SCALING CASES BY THIS SYSTEM INVOLVES THE ASSIGNMENT OF NUMBERS TO VARIOUS ITEMS OF INFORMATION. CASES ARE SCORED ON THE BASIS OF POINTS FOR SERIOUSNESS OF THE OFFENSE, SERIOUSNESS OF THE DEFENDANT, AND THE PROBABILITY OF CONVICTION BY TRIAL OR PLEA. THESE THREE SCORES ARE THEN SUMMED AND WEIGHTED BY AN EQUATION WHICH DISTINGUISHES ONE CASE FROM ANOTHER AND RANKS THEM IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE TO THE PROSECUTOR. AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED
