Abstract
WHILE THE STATED GOAL AND OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT UPDATE STATED WAS THE REDUCTION OF POLICE RESPONSE TIME, ADDITIONAL PLANNING RECOGNITION WAS GIVEN TO SUPPORT SERVICES WHICH INFLUENCE OVERALL DEPARTMENTAL OPERATIONS, PARALLEL SYSTEMS PLANNING FOR FOUR INTERRELATED PROJECTS: PROJECT UPDATE, WHICH DEALS WITH POLICE COMMUNICATIONS; PROJECT TARS (TRANSCRIBING AUTOMATED RECORD SYSTEM) WHICH PROVIDES FOR WORD PROCESSING OF POLICE REPORTS TO THEIR FINISHED FORM; PROJECT MAPS (MICROFILMING AUTOMATIC PROCESSING SYSTEM) WHICH PROVIDES SOURCE DOCUMENT MICROFILMING AND FILM PROCESSING; AND PROJECT LEADERS (LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES DATA ENTRY AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM IV) WHICH PROVIDES 'REAL TIME' INQUIRY CAPABILITIES NEEDED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES FOR OUTSTANDING WARRANTS, ARREST RECORDS, PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS, SEARCHES, ETC.
