PATROL PLAN DEVELOPED BY THE TAMPA, FLA., POLICE WHICH PROVIDES THE GREATEST CONCENTRATION OF MANPOWER AT THE TIMES AND IN THE AREAS WITH THE HIGHEST NEED FOR SERVICE.
Abstract
'IN IMPLEMENTING THE PATROL DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM, THE THREE PLATOONS WERE CONVERTED TO TWENTY-ONE PATROL SQUADS, EACH COMPOSED OF NINE PATROLMEN, ONE CORPORAL AND ONE SERGEANT. THE SYSTEM PROVIDED FOR OFFICERS TO BE ASSIGNED TO SQUADS WHICH WERE GIVEN A GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY. THE AREAS WERE SUBDIVIDED BY BEATS WHICH WERE COMPOSED OF GRIDS. THE SIZE OF THE AREAS DEPENDED UPON THE GRID COMPOSITION OF THE BEATS, DETERMINATION OF WHICH DEPENDED UPON THE CRIME INCIDENCE AND CALLS FOR SERVICE WITHIN THE GRID.' PATROL SERVICE WITHIN THE GRIDS WAS TIMED TO COINCIDE WITH THE HOURS OF HIGHEST CRIME OCCURRENCE. AUTHOR ABSTRACT
