OHIO CITIZEN'S TASK FORCE IS USED TO ISOLATE FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO SUCCESSFUL CHANGE IN AN AGENT FOR REFORM.
Abstract
FOLLOWING A DISCUSSION OF THE NATURE OF CORRECTIONAL REFORM, THE AUTHORS COMMENT ON AND GIVE EXAMPLES OF EXTERNAL AGENTS OF CORRECTIONAL REFORM. COMMENTS ARE THEN MADE ON THE BACKGROUND AND ACTIVITIES OF THE OHIO TASK FORCE WHICH WAS ORGANIZED FOLLOWING FOUR MAJOR CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION RIOTS IN THE STATE. CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO THE TASK FORCE MEMBERSHIP, WITH CLASSIFICATION OF MEMBERS IN TERMS OF THEIR SALIENT FEATURES. THE DOCUMENT THEN FOCUSES ON THE IMPORTANCE AND ROLE OF PROFESSIONAL STAFF ON TASK FORCES. GUIDELINES FOR CONSTRUCTING A REFORM TASK FORCE AND CAVEATS WHICH SHOULD BE MADE REGARDING THE USE OF A TASK FORCE FOR CORRECTIONAL REFORM ARE DELINEATED.
