This pamphlet discusses tuberculosis (TB) in the context of its prevalence within prisons.
Abstract
The pamphlet describes the TB infection, methods of transmission and the relationship between TB and HIV/AIDS, and ways to protect against TB infection. Other topics covered here include symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Multiple-drug- resistant TB has appeared frequently in prisons, jails, and hospitals; it cannot be cured through the use of ordinary antibiotics, but requires longer and more expensive treatment. The pamphlet stresses the need for persons suspecting they have TB to seek medical care immediately and, if diagnosed, to take all the medication for the prescribed amount of time.
