Abstract
This book examines the importance of teams to police managers, operational personnel, and members of the community. Chapter 1 provides essential knowledge about groups in an organization with an emphasis on teams, groups, and task-forces in law enforcement. Chapter 2 examines the team leader as well as leadership attributes. Chapter 3 investigates the impact change has on the organization and the individual. Chapter 4 addresses team member commitment while Chapter 5 explores accountability and team performance as a basis for the behavioral and social skills needed to integrate and foster a cohesive team. Chapters 6 and 7 discuss counseling and coaching as vital elements to the professional growth of team members. Chapter 8 assesses how emphatic team communication influences action. Chapter 9 examines how to motivate and inspire team members. Chapter 10 examines what it takes to achieve positive results which place the team process in position to deal with results management. Chapter 11 presents the latest available information on how law enforcement can utilize logic models and apply problem solving to the activities of teams. Learning objectives are provided at the beginning of each chapter to prepare the reader for the complexity and intricacy of the upcoming information. Also provided at the end of each chapter are questions and discussion points which are meant to challenge and clarify the concepts and relevancy of each chapter while giving insight into the components and variables of the team process.
