Abstract

"Knoxville 'Takes a Stand' Against Bullying" describes the components of an anti-bullying program for which the Knoxville Police Department (Tennessee) received a national award from the School Safety Advocacy Council. "Developing the Next Generation Stab Resistant Body Armor Standard" reports on the U.S. Justice Department's National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) development of an update to the 2000 NIJ standard for stab-resistant body armor, so as to better address the current stab and slash threats faced by U.S. corrections officers. "Familial DNA Project: Engaging Stakeholders, Sharing Opinions" discusses the benefits and issues associated with familial searching, which is an additional search of a DNA profile in a law enforcement database conducted after a routine search results in no profile matches. "New Website Provides Facts About Body Armor Standards, Testing and Practical Use" describes the features of a new Website that presents news and information on body armor that meets the standards set forth by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). A technology news summary is also provided in this issue.
