This document describes technical assistance, information services, and training available from the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) to those working in Federal, State, and local adult corrections agencies, as well as the cooperative agreements that NIC anticipates funding during fiscal year 2002, which begins October 1, 2001.
Abstract
Training topics include leadership and management of corrections programs and services, and helping agencies build capacity for training, offender management, and addressing staff sexual misconduct. Additional topics include offender job training, placement, and retention; women offenders; jail administration; jail inmate supervision and management; inmate classification in jails; new jail planning; educating local officials and the community; jail standards and inspections; and jail mental health services. Topics relating to prison programs and services include leadership and management, objective classification, institutional culture, prison management and operations, and correctional health care. Topics related to community corrections include executive orientation, effective offender management, and management and operations. The manual also explains the services available from the NIC Information Center, how to request information from the Center, application information relating to technical assistance, the videoconference calendar and logistics, distance learning training, and e-learning training.
