Abstract
NIC was established in 1974 as a center for correctional knowledge; the organization provides direct services in the form of training seminars, resources, and technical assistance. The first section of the report provides a description of the leadership and management training programs offered in 2005, as well as training programs and technical assistance on building agency capacity, addressing sexual misconduct among staff, offender job training and placement, women offenders, correctional health care, and offender transition supervision. Each training program description offers details of the course, the target audience, application requirements, contacts, and program dates and application deadlines. Similar information is offered for the descriptions of the Satellite/Internet Broadcasts. The second section focuses on the training and technical assistance offered regarding jail administration, inmate behavior management, new jail planning, educating local officials, jail standards and inspections, and jail mental health services. The third section describes the training opportunities offered for prison programs and services, such as leadership and management training, training on institutional culture, correctional health care training and assistance, and technical assistance regarding objective classification schemes. The fourth section describes training and assistance opportunities falling under the domain of community corrections. Training seminars are offered on executive leadership and on the effective supervision of women defendants and offenders in the community. The NIC Information Center is described and contact information for the Office of International Assistance is offered.
