This National Institute of Corrections’ (NIC’s) annual service plan for fiscal year 2009 (begins on October 1, 2008) includes training programs, technical assistance opportunities, and information services that NIC will provide for correctional executives and practitioners working in all corrections disciplines in Federal, State, and local adult correctional agencies.
Abstract
Training programs and technical assistance services for all corrections disciplines pertain to leadership and management, helping agencies build capacity for training, offender workforce development, women offenders, and human resources. Training programs and technical assistance services for jails address jail administration, inmate behavior management, planning for new jails, jail standards and inspections, and educating local officials and communities about jails. Training programs and technical assistance services for prisons focus on leadership and management, prison management and operations, and correctional health care. Community Corrections training programs and technical assistance offer resources for executive leadership and management, effective offender management in the community, evidence-based decisionmaking in local criminal justice systems, and comprehensive framework and services for parole authorities. Other sections of this report describe the services of various NIC institutional entities and services. These include information services provided by the NIC Information Center; the Technical Assistance Program; satellite/Internet broadcasts; the NIC Learning Center; training programs at the National Corrections Academy in Aurora, CO; NIC-paid training other than in Aurora, CO; and partnership programs. Forms provided are an application for individuals, statement of interest to host partnership programs, application for regional field coordinator, and agency profile.
