This report from the Secretariat of the United Nations presents information on the technical assistance provided to member states in the application of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime to new forms of transnational organized crime.
Abstract
This report was prepared by the Secretariat of the United Nations to provide information on the technical assistance provided to member states in the application of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime to new forms of transnational organized crime. The first section of the report presents an overview of resolution 5/1, which ensures effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols. The second section of the report discusses how the Convention can be applied to new forms and dimensions of transnational organized crime. The third section of the report presents an overview of technical activities provided by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as they relate to the following new forms of transnational organized crime: cybercrime, maritime piracy, environmental crime, cultural property, trafficking in organs, and fraudulent medicines. The final sections of the report discusses research and trend analysis by UNODC on the threat of transnational organized crime, and a set of recommendations for parties to the Convention who are dealing with the new forms of transnational organized crime.
