Abstract
THE CONFERENCE, WHICH WAS SPONSORED JOINTLY BY THE PIMA COUNTY JUVENILE JUSTICE COLLABORATION, NEW DIRECTIONS FOR YOUNG WOMEN, INC., AND THE PIMA COUNTY JUVENILE COURT, DREW SPEAKERS AND PARTICIPANTS FROM THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. THE CONFERENCE PAPERS ARE DIVIDED INTO THREE SECTIONS: YOUNG WOMEN AND SOCIETY, YOUNG WOMEN AND THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND YOUNG WOMEN AND ALTERNATIVE WAYS. THE FIRST INCLUDES DISCUSSIONS OF SUCH TOPICS AS HISTORICAL RESTRICTIONS OF WOMEN'S SPHERE, SEX-ROLE SOCIALIZATION, PHILOSOPHICAL VIEWS OF SEX ROLES, DEFINING PERSONS IN NEED OF SUPERVISION, THE SPECIAL PROBLEMS OF MINORITY WOMEN, AND ATTITUDES TOWARD SEX ROLES AMONG HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS AND STUDENTS. PAPERS ON JUVENILE JUSTICE DISCUSS TREATMENT OF FEMALE DELINQUENTS IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, THE HISTORY OF LEGAL RESTRAINTS ON WOMEN, DISPARATE TREATMENT OF WOMEN UNDER THE LAW, JUSTICE FOR FEMALE DELINQUENTS, 'INFANTILIZATION' OF WOMEN IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, FAILURES OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, THE PIMA COUNTY JUVENILE COURT'S EFFORTS TO END ITS JURISDICTION OVER STATUS OFFENDERS, AND THE PUBLIC'S UNWILLINGNESS TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM JURISDICTION OVER NONCRIMINAL YOUTH.
