FOUR DIFFERENT FILMSTRIPS ACCOMPANIED BY AUDIO CASSETTES EXPLORE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEENAGERS AND THE POLICE - CONTEMPORARY AND HISTORICAL VIEWS OF BOTH GROUPS ARE EXPLAINED.
Abstract
THE PARADOX IN THIS RELATIONSHIP IS THAT BOTH GROUPS ARE SIMILAR IN THAT THEY ARE APART FROM THE REST OF SOCIETY AND THEY AND THEIR MOTIVES ARE GENERALLY MISUNDERSTOOD YET THEIR INTERGROUP RELATIONSHIP IS EVEN MORE FRAUGHT WITH MISUNDERSTANDING THAN EITHER GROUP'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SOCIETY AS A WHOLE. THE FIRST PROGRAM DISCUSSES ATTITUDES AND ACTIONS AT THE MEETING, OR CONFRONTATION, OF GROUP MEMBERS. THE NEXT PRESENTS THE MYTHICAL PORTRAYAL OF THE POLICEMAN BY THE MASS MEDIA AND ATTEMPTS TO DISCERN THE TRUTH. THE THIRD PROGRAM PRESENTS A HISTORICAL VIEW OF THE POLICE, SPECIALLY THE INFLUENCES OF THE POLICE OF OTHER COUNTRIES ON OUR OWN POLICE. THE FINAL PROGRAM DISCUSSES THE PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS OF THE NEED FOR SOCIAL CONTROL.
