This teacher's manual accompanies a curriculum to teach adolescents individual crime prevention and self-protection techniques and to encourage their involvement in community crime prevention projects.
Abstract
The text chapters begin with a section on crime and crime prevention and move on to discussions of crime victims, teens and crime, violent crime, property crime, and the criminal and juvenile justice systems. Six crime-specific chapters discuss child abuse, acquaintance rape, substance abuse, drunk driving, and shoplifting. Each chapter consists of a set of objectives, a list of related vocabulary, an activity to bring out students' personal experiences, substantive information, critical thinking and problem solving activities, enrichment activities to broaden students' knowledge of their community crime prevention programs, and a final activity involving the students' in a broad application of the chapter material. The teacher's manual includes blackline masters and employs various teaching methods including community resources, roleplays, and small groups. Chapter references
