These 10 lesson guides have been designed to educate elementary school students about potentially dangerous situations and the role they can play in helping to prevent crimes from occurring.
Abstract
One lesson is provided for each month of the school year. The lessons are intended to introduce the student to the concept of crime prevention, to acquaint students with Operation Identification and how it can work to protect their property from theft, and to instill good security habits. Other lessons are concerned with teaching students the advantages of cooperation among neighbors in preventing crime (Neighborhood Watch), a sense of responsibility for personal protection and safety, points to remember when describing witnesses, and the impact of shoplifting and vandalism on students and others. Posters which correspond to each lesson are provided to display in the classroom, and a description of supplemental materials and such teaching aids as films, slide shows, and coloring books is appended.
