This annual report of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) for fiscal year 2005-2006 provides information and statistics pertinent to the operation and achievements of the TDOC for the year.
Abstract
Data on institutional population and capacity address incarceration rates, institutional capacity and population distribution, and operating capacity and population projections. Statistics are also provided on community service crews and inmate jobs. Other data pertain to felon population trends, local jail census, inmate demographics, average sentence length, time served, and institutional incidents. Information is presented on transition centers, substance abuse treatment, prerelease programs, mental health services, and victim services. Data and information are provided for each custodial facility in the State. Staffing and budget data are also presented. An outline of the TDOC's achievements for the year notes that Tennessee is one of a few States to maintain its national accredited status by the American Correctional Association. Inmates showed a systemwide average GED passing rate of 70.9 percent; and some 5,694 inmates were enrolled in vocational programs. The institutional incident rate continued its pattern of decline. The second Tennessee Criminal Justice Summit was held, thereby continuing the work in developing a road map for the State's criminal justice future. The correctional officer turnover rate was 26 percent, a 2-percent decrease from calendar year 2004. Extensive tables and figures
