THEORY OF TERRORISM, ITS UTILITY AND EFFECTIVENESS AS SEEN FROM THE TERRORISTS' POINT OF VIEW, THE REASON FOR ITS APPARENT INCREASE IN RECENT YEARS, SOME RECENT AND POSSIBLE FUTURE TRENDS, AND A DISCUSSION OF KIDNAPPING.
Abstract
TERRORISM IS DISCUSSED AS A CAMPAIGN OF VIOLENCE, WAGED USUALLY BY A SMALL GROUP ABLE TO COMMIT SMALL ACTS OF VIOLENCE WHICH WILL CREATE FEAR AND ALARM AND ATTRACT BROAD MEDIA COVERAGE. FOR THE FUTURE THE AUTHOR FORESEES THE POSSIBLITY OF GREATER, PERHAPS EVEN INTERNATIONAL, COOPERATION BETWEEN TERRORIST GROUPS OF SIMILAR IDEOLOGIES AND THE PERPETRATION OF MORE SPECTACULAR, MORE DESTRUCTIVE ACTS. THE OBJECTIVES OF KIDNAPPING, PARTICULARLY THOSE RELEVANT TO TERRORIST MOVEMENTS, ARE ALSO DISCUSSED.
