Abstract
THE AUTHOR COMBINES HIS HISTORICAL ANALYSES WITH DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ACTIVITIES OF TERRORIST GROUPS TO PRESENT A HARSH CRITICISM OF THE NATURE AND METHODS OF TERRORISM. AFTER A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE AUTHOR'S VIEWS ON THE CHARACTER OF TERRORISM, THE TEXT TURNS TO AN ANALYSIS OF THE EVENT WHICH THE AUTHOR VIEWS AS THE BEGINNING OF MODERN TERRORISM: ROBSPIERRE'S GREAT TERROR OF 1793-94. FURTHER HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF TERRORISM ARE THEN EXAMINED, INCLUDING THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION, THE AMERICAN ANARCHIST MOVEMENT, AND THE POLITICAL TERRORISM OF SUCH MEN AS LENIN, TROTSKY, STALIN, AND HITLER. MORE MODERN MANIFESTATIONS OF TERRORISM ARE EXAMINED IN THE THIRD PART OF THIS TEXT, INCLUDING TERRORIST MOVEMENTS IN CHINA, SOUTH AMERICA, THE UNITED STATES, IRELAND, VIETNAM, THE MIDDLE EAST, AND AFRICA. IN PARTICULAR, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES THE PHILOSOPHIES AND ACTIONS OF SUCH MEN AS MAO TSE-TUNG, GUEVARA, MARIGHELLA, HUEY NEWTON, AND ARAFAT. FINALLY, AN ANALYSIS OF THE EVOLUTION OF TERRORISM AND THE UNIQUE ASPECTS OF TERRORISM IN RECENT TIMES IS PRESENTED.
