Abstract
THIS TRANSCRIPT OF A TELEVISION PROGRAM GIVES THE VIEWS OF JOURNALISTS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, PSYCHOLOGISTS AND PSYCHIATRISTS, AND SCHOLARS FROM THE UNITED STATES, ISRAEL, ENGLAND, GERMANY, AND ITALY CONCERNING TERRORIST ACTIVITIES. AMONG THE TOPICS DISCUSSED ARE THE REASONS FOR KIDNAPPING OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND BUSINESS EXECUTIVES; HOW BEST TO DEAL WITH TERRORISTS WHO ARE HOLDING HOSTAGES; COMMON DENOMINATORS IN PERSONALITY TYPES OF TERRORISTS, INCLUDING AN EVALUATION BY A FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGIST OF THE GERMAN TERRORIST BAADER MEINHOF GANG; A DISCUSSION OF STEREOTYPES IN TERMS OF TERRORIST PERSONALITY; AND EVALUATION OF THE IDEA THAT TERRORIST GROUPS, PARTICULARLY THOSE IN GERMANY, PALESTINE, AND JAPAN, ARE LINKED BY A FORM OF TRANSNATIONAL COOPERATION EVIDENCED BY ARMS SUPPLIES. THE APPROPRIATE GOVERNMENT RESPONSE TO TERRORIST ATTACK, AND DEFENSIVE MEASURES THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO PROTECT PERSONS AND INSTALLATIONS FROM ATTACK, ARE COVERED. A DIAGRAM OF INTERACTION BETWEEN AUTHORITIES, MEDIA, TERRORISTS, AND THEIR TARGETS IS INCLUDED. (RFC)
