This report profiles 24 programs that received awards from the Texas Attorney General in 1994 for their innovative and effective approaches to crime and crime prevention.
Abstract
Some programs used conventional approaches, others used unconventional techniques, and others relied on creative and cooperative use of both resources and laws. The programs were grouped into 11 categories: (1) community policing, (2) crime prevention, (3) criminal law enforcement, (4) drug abuse prevention, (5) gang prevention, (6) juvenile probation, (7) neighborhood action, (8) neighborhood crime watch, (9) police officers and youth, (10) school-based programs, and (11) school-based alternative education. The winners were selected from more than 200 nominees. Nominations for future awards are sought in six additional categories. Photographs and contact information
