THIS 1979 DIRECTORY IS DESIGNED TO AID PAROLE OFFICERS IN TEXAS IN THE PROVISION OF DRUG, ALCOHOL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, AND LEGAL SERVICES TO PAROLEES. IT FOCUSES ON PAROLE PLANNING, COUNSELING, INVESTIGATIONS, AND SUPERVISION.
Abstract
THE TEXAS DIVISION OF PAROLE SUPERVISION ENDORSES THE CONCEPT OF THE PAROLE OFFICER AS A BROKER OF COMMUNITY SERVICES. BROKERAGE IS A REALISTIC APPROACH TO PAROLE SUPERVISION BECAUSE IT ADDRESSES IMMEDIATE AND PRACTICAL NEEDS OF PAROLEES. THESE NEEDS INCLUDE EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING, FOOD AND CLOTHING, SOCIAL REINTEGRATION, AND COPING SKILLS. THE FIRST PART OF THE DIRECTORY, A LISTING OF SERVICES BY REGIONAL, COUNTY, AND DISTRICT, REGIONS I THROUGH VIII, SHOULD BE PARTICULARLY HELPFUL TO PAROLE OFFICERS IN FULFILLING SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF PAROLE, SUCH AS DRUG AND ALCOHOL COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING. THE SECOND PART OF THE DIRECTORY LISTS HALFWAY HOUSES CONTRACTING WITH THE BOARD OF PARDONS AND PAROLES. RESIDENCY IN THESE HOUSES MAY BE BY SPECIAL CONDITION OR BY DIRECT REFERRAL FROM PAROLE OFFICERS. THE THIRD PART OF THE DIRECTORY LISTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AGENCIES THAT MAY BE USEFUL IN RESOLVING PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH PAROLE ADJUSTMENT OR PAROLE PLANNING, SUCH AS MEDICAL NEEDS, EMPLOYMENT, WELFARE PROGRAMS, VETERANS BENEFITS, AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS. MAPS OF TEXAS AND A FORM FOR NOTING WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR PAROLEES AND HOW THEY CAN BE CONTACTED ARE INCLUDED.(DEP)
