PROCEDURES ARE DESCRIBED FOR ADMINISTERING POLICE OFFICER ENTRY-LEVEL SELECTION TESTS DEVELOPED BY THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Abstract
THE JOB RELATEDNESS OF SELECTION PROCEDURES IS OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE IN ACHIEVING MERIT SELECTION OF QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WITH THE LEAST IMPACT ON ANY SINGULAR GROUP OF PEOPLE. THE PROPER APPLICATION OF SELECTION PROCEDURES IS AS ESSENTIAL TO THE NONDISCRIMINATORY SELECTION PROCESS AS THE TEST INSTRUMENTS THEMSELVES. THE ENTRY-LEVEL POLICE OFFICER SELECTION TESTS ARE AVAILABLE TO ANY MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPARTMENT IN TEXAS. AS DEVELOPED, THE TESTS ARE TO BE USED SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF EVALUATING APPLICANTS FOR MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS. NO INFERENCES ARE TO BE DRAWN ABOUT THE UTILITY OF THE TESTS IN SELECTING APPLICANTS FOR OTHER RELATED BUT DIFFERENT POSITIONS, I.E., PARK POLICE, AIRPORT POLICE, AND CAMPUS POLICE. THE TESTS DEAL WITH READING COMPREHENSION AND WRITING SKILLS. PROCEDURES FOR ADMINISTERING AND SCORING TESTS AND RECORDKEEPING REQUIREMENTS ARE DETAILED. TEST FORMS AND A SCORE CONVERSION TABLE ARE APPENDED. (DEP)
