Abstract
This report on crime in Texas during 1992 was compiled from data submitted to the Texas Department of Public Safety's Uniform Crime Reporting Section by 872 sheriffs and police chiefs whose jurisdictions cover 99.9 percent of Texas' population. It includes statistics on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reports eight index crimes: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Also included is data for several non-index crimes: driving under the influence arrests, drug abuse arrests, drug seizures and weapons arrests. For the first time, information on family violence and hate crimes are also included. Index crime reports from Texas campus police departments are included in a separate section. Another section discusses law enforcement employee strength, employment trends, law officers assaulted in the line of duty and law officers killed in the line of duty. A breakdown of crime statistics by jurisdiction is provided. tables, graphs
