STATISTICAL DATA ON FEMALES EMPLOYED BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR THE 5-YEAR PERIOD COVERING 1973-77 ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE STUDY INCLUDED ALL DIVISIONS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT THAT EMPLOYED FEMALES (FEMALES WORKING ON MALE UNITS IN A CLERICAL CAPACITY AND IN OTHER DIVISIONS SUCH AS AGRICULTURE, BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, LEGAL SERVICES, SPECIAL SERVICES, TRAINING, TREATMENT, AND EDUCATION). IN 1977, FEMALE EMPLOYEES RANGED IN AGE FROM 16 TO 70 YEARS AND EARNED FROM LESS THAN $5,000 TO OVER $25,000 ANNUALLY. THEIR EDUCATION VARIED FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO A DOCTORATE DEGREE, ALTHOUGH MOST REPORTED A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION ONLY. THE MEAN AGE OF FEMALE EMPLOYEES WAS 37 YEARS, AND THE MEAN ANNUAL SALARY WAS $10,619. THE PERCENTAGE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF FEMALE EMPLOYEES FROM 1973 TO 1977 WAS 50.55. TABULAR DATA INDICATE THE NUMBER, RATIO, AND PERCENTAGE OF FEMALE EMPLOYEES FOR THE 5-YEAR PERIOD, AS WELL AS SALARY, AGE, AND EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT. (DEP)
