INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE INFORMATION WHICH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS MAINTAINS ON INMATES ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE AND THE PAROLE BROAD'S DECISIONS FOR PAROLE CONSIDERATION.
Abstract
THIS STUDY WAS CONDUCTED TO FIND OUT WHAT TYPES OF INFORMATION ARE BEING USED AND WHAT TYPES ARE NOT BEING USED IN PAROLE CONSIDERATIONS. CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS, FACTOR ANALYSIS, AND MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION PROGRAMS WERE USED TO DETERMINE SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE INFORMATION AND THE PAROLE BOARD DECISIONS. THE PROCEDURES FOR THIS STUDY WERE FIRST THE SELECTION OF A SAMPLE GROUP, THEN THE SELECTION OF VARIABLES AND THE CREATION OF FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTIONS FOR THESE VARIABLES. FIFTEEN VARIABLES (INCLUDING AGE, SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT, AND NUMBER OF JAIL CONFINEMENTS) WERE IDENTIFIED AS STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EACH VARIABLE AND THE DECISIONS OF THE PAROLE BOARD IS DESCRIBED BRIEFLY. EXTENSIVE TABULAR DATA APPEARS BOTH IN THE MAIN BODY OF THE REPORT AND IN THE APPENDIXES.
