This guide presents strategies and tips for preparing for the 3rd Annual National Youth Court Month, observed September 2004.
Abstract
The National Youth Court Month allows an opportunity for youth courts to share and celebrate their programs’ successes, to honor volunteers, and to recruit new volunteers and staff. The supporting agencies involved in youth courts have designated September 2004 as the 3rd Annual National Youth Court Month and have determined this year’s theme to be “Serving Communities--Changing Lives.” This guide presents tips for planning events and activities, strategies for communicating with the media, and a listing of National Youth Court resources. Activities to commemorate National Youth Court Month are suggested and include sponsoring an essay contest for school students using the 2004 National Youth Court Month theme or creating an art exhibit showing how Youth Court serves the community. A planning checklist is offered and national recognition opportunities are listed, such as the Volunteer Hall of Honor hosted by the National Youth Court Center. Sample news releases, letters, and public service announcements are included.
