This resource book is intended for use in one of three seminars of a conference on juveniles justice issues; these materials focus on national policy development in juvenile justice.
Abstract
Following a listing of the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the faculty, a paper presents 10 questions and answers to help policymakers improve children's services. The emphasis is on thinking collaboratively in the development of juvenile justice policies. This is followed by a presentation of the Education and the Family policy resolutions composed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors from 1981 through 1991. The national drug control strategy is then summarized. In the section on issues related to delinquency policy formulation, there is a summary of State compliance with sections 223(a)(12), (13) and (14) of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended. Also included is a paper on pathways to success for America's youth and young families. A paper on "Kids in Trouble" discusses the coordination of social and correctional service systems for youth.
