IN THIS AUDIO CASSETTE, A JUVENILE COURT OFFICIAL CLAIMS THAT THE LEGAL SYSTEM, IN GENERALLY DENYING CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTIONS TO YOUTH, HAS EFFECTIVELY THROWN MANY CHILDREN AWAY.
Abstract
THE RESTRICTED ABILITY OF THE JUVENILE COURTS TO EXTEND TO CHILDREN EQUAL PROTECTION AND DUE PROCESS CONSIDERATIONS IS CRITICIZED, AND IT IS ARGUED THAT JUVENILE COURT JUDGES ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY EMPOWERED TO ORDER NECESSARY SERVICES FOR CHILDREN. A BROAD AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EFFORT ON BEHALF OF YOUTH IS SUGGESTED, NOT ONLY TO PROVIDE EQUAL PROTECTION AND DUE PROCESS OF LAW FOR CHILDREN VIS-A-VIS ADULTS, BUT ALSO TO EXTEND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO CHILDREN OF ALL ECONOMIC BACKGROUND, RACES, AND SEXES.
