EXPERIMENTAL DATA PRESENTED WAS OBTAINED FROM ACTIVITIES OF THE SYRACUSE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CRIME CONTROL TEAMS.
Abstract
THE MAJOR TACTICAL OBJECTIVE OF THESE TEAMS IS TO INTERCEPT CRIME WHILE IT IS IN PROGRESS. THE THEORY OF RANDOM PATROL WAS APPLIED TO THE PROBLEMS OF THIS OBJECTIVE. DATA AVAILABLE TO DATE AFFIRMS THE CONTENTION THAT MANY MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS DO HAVE SUFFICIENT MANPOWER TO IMPLEMENT AN EFFECTIVE RANDOM PATROL.
