This report presents tabular data on the total number of admissions to California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions for civil narcotic addicts first released to outpatient status in California for calendar year 1998, along with tables that show a breakdown by gender.
Abstract
During 1998, 1,315 civil narcotic addicts were released to outpatient status for the first time from a CDC institution. The total mean time served in CDC institutions and in custody prior to CDC was 14.9 months. The mean and median time served in CDC institutions was 11.6 and 11.1 months, respectively. The total mean time served for females was 14.6 months and 15.1 months for males. The median time served in CDC institutions was 11.7 months for females and 11.6 months for males. The mean time in custody prior to CDC was 2.9 months for females and 3.4 months for males. The total mean time served for personal offenses (crimes against persons) was 15.3 months, with females serving 1.9 months longer than males (16.8 months for females and 14.9 months for males). Time served for property offenses was 14.6 months for females and 15.2 months for males. Time served for drug offenses was 14.6 months for females and 15.1 months for males. Time served for all other offenses was 12.2 months for females and 13.2 months for males. 3 tables
