Annotation

During 1991, 49,204 felons were paroled for the first time from California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions.

Abstract

The total mean time served in CDC institutions and in custody prior to CDC was 21 months (21.4 months for males and 17.5 months for females). In contrast, the total mean time served for violent offenses was 33.1 months, with males serving 4.6 months longer than females. The total mean time served for property offenses was 18.3 months, while the total mean time served for drug offenses was 18.6 months. During 1991, 35,627 felony new admissions were paroled for the first time. The total mean time served for this group, including time in custody prior to CDC, was 21.6 months (22 months for males and 17.9 months for females). Also during 1991, 13,577 parole violators who were returned with a new term were paroled for the first time following their return to CDC for a new offense. This group served a total mean time in CDC institutions and in custody prior to CDC of 19.5 months (19.8 months for males and 15.7 months for females). 9 tables and 4 figures
