This report presents statistical data on the average and median time served on prison sentences for the 56,861 felony inmates paroled for the first time from State correctional institutions in California in 1995.
Abstract
The data revealed that the total mean time served in California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions and in custody prior to CDC was 22.1 months, while the median time served was 16.8 months. The mean and median times served in CDC institutions were 17.6 and 12.6 months, respectively. The total mean time served in custody and CDC was 22.7 months for males and 16.7 months for females. The average time served in CDC institutions was 18.1 months for males and 12.4 months for females. The total mean time served for personal offenses was 35.0 months; males served 35.4 months and females served 26.8 months. The mean time served for drug law offenses was 19.5 months for males and 16.0 months for females. The mean time served for all other offenses was 15.5 months for males and 15.4 months for females.
