Abstract
TABULAR DATA ARE PROVIDED ON CLIENTS REFERRED TO THE METROPOLITAN TORONTO FORENSIC SERVICE (METFORS) BETWEEN JUNE 1977 AND MARCH 1978. THEY SPECIFY (1) COURTS REFERRING TO METFORS FOR BRIEF ASSESSMENT AND NUMBER OF REFERRALS BY EACH COURT; (2) NUMBER OF BRIEF ASSESSMENTS COMPLETED BY METFORS: (3) MARITAL STATE OF PERSONS REFERRED TO METFORS; AND (4) DISTRIBUTION OF REFERRED POPULATION BY AGE AND SEX. ALSO INCLUDED ARE STATISTICS ON REFERRED POPULATION BY COUNTRY OF ORIGIN, DIAGNOSTIC CLASSIFICATIONS USED BY METFORS PSYCHIATRISTS FOLLOWING BRIEF ASSESSMENT, NATURE OF CHARGES AGAINST THE REFERRED POPULATION, AND OCCUPATIONS OF REFERRED PERSONS. PERCENTAGES OF CASES USING ALCOHOL AND DRUGS TO EXCESS ARE PRESENTED, AND FIGURES ARE GIVEN ON RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SMOKING AND DRINKING ACCORDING TO REPORTS GIVEN TO NURSING STAFF, PREVIOUS HISTORY OF PERSONS REFERRED FOR PSYCHIATRIC ASSESSMENT, SUMMARIES OF IMPRESSIONS FORMED BY SOCIAL WORK STAFF DURING BRIEF ASSESSMENT, RECOMMENDATIONS OF PSYCHIATRISTS IN PERCENT OF CASES, AND GENERAL ATTITUDE AND BEHAVIOR OF CLIENTS WHILE AT METFORS ARE COVERED. FINALLY, STATISTICAL DATA ON THE DRIVING HISTORY OF CLIENTS, CONVICTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS OF CLIENTS POSSESSING LICENSES, EDUCATIONAL LEVEL OF REFERRED PERSONS, GLOBAL ESTIMATES OF INTELLIGENCE OF CLIENTS; ESTIMATES OF CLIENT DANGEROUSNESS, SUMMMARY DATA ON INPATIENTS DISCHARGED, AND DETAILED DATA ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DISCHARGED INPATIENTS ARE PROVIDED.
