Abstract
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND FAMILY BACKGROUND ARE THE TWO BRAND CATEGORIES EXAMINED IN PLACING AN OFFENDER IN ONE OF THE THREE TYPES. SUPERVISION BY MOTHER, DISCIPLINE BY MOTHER, AND COHESIVENESS OF THE FAMILY ARE CONSIDERED MAJOR FACTORS FOR ASSESSMENT IN AN OFFENDER'S FAMILY BACKGROUND. ADVENTUROUSNESS, DEFIANCE, AND ACQUISITIVENESS ARE THREE OF THE PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS DEEMED IMPORTANT IN MEASURING TENDENCIES TOWARD ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR. BEHAVIORAL MANIFESTATIONS OF THE THREE TYPES OF DELINQUENTS IN CHILDHOOD AND ADULTHOOD ARE DISCUSSED. USES OF THE TYPOLOGY FOR THE CLINICIAN ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. FAMILY LIFE, SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, RECREATION FACILITIES, AND THE COORDINATION OF COMMUNITY AGENCIES ARE DISCUSSED AS IMPORTANT FOCI FOR DELINQUENCY PREVENTION EFFORTS.
