THIS VOLUME PRESENTS AN ANALYTICAL MODEL OF THE ROUTINE MOVEMENT OF UNIFORMED OFFICERS THROUGH DEFINED BEATS AND A DETAILED ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING TRADITIONAL PATROL PRACTICES.
Abstract
IN DOING SO, IT BUILDS UPON AND INTEGRATES THE INFORMATION PRESENTED WITHIN A PRELIMINARY REPORT, 'ISSUES IN TRADITIONAL PREVENTIVE PATROL: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE' (NCJ-35448), WITH THE ANALYSIS OF INFORMATION GAINED DURING SITE VISITS TO 26 POLICE DEPARTMENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND A REVIEW OF PERTINENT ONGOING AND COMPLETED PROJECTS. THE ANALYTICAL MODEL DISPLAYS THE INTER-RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF PREVENTIVE PATROL AND THE RESOURCES AND PROCESSES WHICH ARE USED TO ACHIEVE THEM. THE ASSESSMENT ITSELF IS PRESENTED IN FIVE SEPARATE CHAPTERS ON DEPLOYMENT, TASK ASSIGNMENT, SUPERVISORY PRACTICES, MODES OF TRANSPORTATION, AND PATROL OFFICER CHARACTERISTICS. THE CONCLUDING CHAPTER REFLECTS UPON THE STATE OF KNOWLEDGE AND POINTS TOWARD RELEVANT WORK WHICH COULD BE CONDUCTED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PATROL ACTIVITIES.
