THIS POLICE TRAINING MANUAL DESCRIBES WHEN, WHY, AND HOW TO MAKE ARRESTS FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS.
Abstract
ARRESTS ARE USUALLY MADE IN THE CASE OF FELONIES OR SERIOUS MISDEMEANORS OR IN ANY CASE THE OFFICER HAS REASON TO BELIEVE THE VIOLATOR WILL NOT APPEAR IN COURT. REQUIREMENTS FOR ARREST, WHEN TO ARREST, AND TAKING PERSONS INTO CUSTODY ARE DESCRIBED. SPECIAL PROBLEMS IN TRAFFIC ARRESTS SUCH AS THE PRESENCE OF MINORS OR PETS IN THE VEHICLE, OR MENTALLY ILL DRIVERS ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. TECHNIQUES FOR TRANSPORTING ARRESTED PERSONS AND FOR RECORDING ARREST DATA ARE ALSO SUGGESTED.
