SUGGESTIONS FOR CONTROLLING STOLEN VEHICLE TRAFFIC, MADE AT AN INTERPOL MEETING.
Abstract
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT COOPERATION BETWEEN POLICE SERVICES BE STEPPED UP IN THIS FIELD, NOTABLY BY EXCHANGING MORE INFORMATION ON SUSPECT SECOND-HAND OR LUXURY VEHICLES FIRST REGISTERED IN ONE COUNTRY AND THEN REREGISTERED IN ANOTHER. THIS REPORT ALSO EMPHASISES THE VALUE OF SOUND-CO-OPERATION AT NATIONAL LEVEL BETWEEN THE POLICE, AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS' ASSOCIATIONS, INSURANCE COMPANIES AND CAR-HIRE COMPANIES WITH A VIEW TO DEVELOPING THE MOST EFFICIENT PREVENTIVE MEASURES POSSIBLE. CAR-HIRE COMPANIES ARE ADVISED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS, SUCH AS PHOTOCOPYING DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED UPON RENTAL TO FORWARD TO POLICE IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT RETURNED. INTERPOL FURTHER DRAWS THE ATTENTION OF MEMBER COUNTRIES TO THE ADVANTAGES NATIONAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION AUTHORITIES WOULD DERIVE FROM SYSTEMATICALLY EXCHANGING INFORMATION WITH A VIEW TO HAVING INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF IMPORTED AND RE-REGISTERED SECOND-HAND CARS CHECKED IN THE COUNTRIES THEY CAME FROM THE DEVELOPMENT OF REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS WHICH ARE DIFFICULT TO FORGE IS ALSO RECOMMENDED.
