This 2014 Trafficking in Persons Report reviews the prevalence and features of human trafficking throughout the world country-by-country, with a focus on the victimization that is involved and what is being done and needs to be done to provide a "Journey From Victim to Survivor," the theme of this year's report.
Abstract
The introductory section of the report defines "trafficking in persons" as "the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion." An overview of the response to such trafficking victimization discusses the importance of building a strong foundation for identifying, relating to, and tailoring treatment for victims of trafficking while designing interventions that address the causes and perpetrators of human trafficking. A section on methodology notes that this report, prepared by the U.S. State Department, uses information from U.S. embassies, government officials, non-governmental and international organizations, published reports, news articles, academic studies, research trips to every region of the world, and information submitted to the State Department via e-mail "tips." In the country reports, information is provided on conditions and trafficking in source and destination countries, with attention to the various types of victimization being perpetrated. An international response to this transnational crime is viewed as the key to addressing it. International efforts and plans are discussed. Extensive data tables and figures
